MEXICO FISHING BOAT MELODY CATCHES ROCKCOD LIMITS
AT ENSENADA'S BANDA BANK

Jan. 24, 2005, Steve Ross, Bad Dog, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico Fishing:

I fished out of Ensenada aboard the 50-foot Mikelson, Melody, fishing at the Banda Bank for limits of rockcod in 60-degree blue water, 2-foot seas, blowing at 5-knots. Fishing aboard the boat were owners Judy and Mel Ostberg, with Capt. Andre. The largest red rockcod was caught by Steve at 3.9 pounds, and Mel caught an 8-pound cow cod. Steve also caught an unusual 3-pound "kelp rockfish." He also hooked a mako shark, but it bit through the ganion and began jumping close the boat after chewing off the hook. The kelp rockfish was a light brown or tan. It's shape matched the book exactly. We were fishing off Ensenada in 300 feet of water.
