BIG SQUID CAUGHT IN SLOW WINTER FISHING AT ENSENADA

Jan. 29, 2005, Gerardo Sanchez, KCHTS Sportfishing, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico Fishing:

There is not to much say about the action around Ensenada bay, which has been slow for our boats, on some bottom fish, bonitas at Punta Soledad, and we've still got big squids. Today I saw one Ensenada commercial fishing panga come back full of these squid, averaging 30 pounds.

Last week, in fishing around Ensenada's Isla Todos Santos during surfing trips, we caught lots of sheephead in 60 feet of water on the north side of the island, and 250 feet deep we caught whitefish and red rockcod. At Punta Soledad, the fish were caught at an average depth of 300 feet, but the problem was seals that took our fish. My fish finder is not working, but the sea water temperature in our Ensenada fishing area is estimated at about 60 degrees at Punta Soledad, and a bit cooler at Isla Todos Santos.
