BAJA KAYAK FISHING GROUP VISITS ENSENADA'S LA BUFADORA

Sept. 17, 2004, Dennis Spike, Coastal Kayak Fishing, La Bufadora, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico Kayak Fishing:

We hosted a Kayakfishing.com group at La Bufadora, Punta Banda, last weekend. The La Bufadora rockfish, lings and bass were on, and we escaped the raging uphill current effect by fishing later in the day when the current turned around. Bait was everywhere around La Bufadora and we fished mostly hand-caught sardines and bullet maks instead of the staple...frozen squid. The heavy fish was a 29.5-pound yellowtail, caught deep, by Mike Pruner of Thousand Oaks.

We had a small group of 9 anglers staying at the Dive Casita at La Bufadora. We have a "do-it-yourself" galley along, and the guides prepare and host dinner Saturday night. Surf and turf. The big yellowtail was caught just out front of the La Bufadora cove in 140 feet of water, hooked deep on a live mackerel on a dropper loop with 2 oz of weight. The residents at La Bufadora redid the ramp there. It's adjacent to the casita and will accomodate small boats with strong tow rigs. It's perfect for the kayaks and we leave our kayaks and gear on the beach, just below us, between La Bufadora fishing sessions without incident.
