ALBACORE TO 39.9 POUNDS CAUGHT DURING OFFSHORE
FISHING BY ENSENADA BOAT BAD DOG

July 28, 2004, Steve Ross, Marina Coral, Bad Dog Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico Fishing:

Bad Dog on the 238 spot Saturday. Approximately 35 miles 220 degrees from Ensenada Marina Coral. 3 yellowtail in the 12 pound range. 3 albacore, largest one caught by Gail 39.9 pounds on a Heavy Weighted and Largest Sevenstrand Tuna Clone Feather in mean joe green color. Mine went 25 pounds. Just the two of us fishing on our boat in 70 degree blue water.

Several Ensenada fishing boats landed dorado and yellowfin tuna. Lots of boats.

We never found a paddy all day, but the one's who did found dorado.

Live bait was excellent quality from Mike Richardon's Ensenada Live Bait....they were 6" sardines with a few small mackeral mixed in.

The seas off Ensenada were large from 3-6' and twice swells came over the gunwales into our cockpit. The wind was up as well. Ya gotta love it.

We trolled all the way back to within 6 miles West of Todos Santos Islands until the water turned green for nothing.

The fish are scattered and congregated in a few spots, they are not plentiful. You have to find them.

Several boats had very difficult times on Sunday. Mexican charterboat Mar Diosa (out of Marina Coral-A Dock) slayed them on both Saturday and Sunday catching limits of yellowtail, lots of albacore and dorado on both day's charters. The owners Linda and Mike Kuhar attribute their success to having two captains....Juan and Pedro to please their customers. This 40' custom sportfishing boat can be contacted through the Marina (toll free 866-302-0066) or directly at (949-650-4735). I recommend this first class operation; these two captains are good fishermen.

I would like to point out that it is Marina Coral, not Corral. A corral is for horses and Coral is from the sea. In marketing brochures and everywhere you will find it spelled with one R. But, all day long people call it.... the Corral.
