A SLOW DAY OF FISHING OFF ENSENADA

June 6, 2004, Gaspar Lares, Fishing Report, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico:

“My day was so bad that I didn’t feel good about what I was going to report. My buddy Sergio from TJ is the one that always goes with me, and every now and then I invite another friend. The Ensenada boat we always fish on is El Dorado and the captain's name is Memo, a cool guy and great fisherman.

We left El Malecon, Ensenada, at 6:15 a.m. and headed straight to El Bajo, 2 miles NE of the lighthouse at the island, for very few bottom fish. It was windy, cold bumpy, the worst day I had in 2 years. We quit at noon and on our way back I got one barracuda trolling, a log. Other than that we got only 14 fish.

We spoke to others while fishing and they felt the same way about fishing. Swells 3 to 5 feet, very strong current, to the point that we watched the semifinals in soccer while we trolled. I hope next time is better. I know it will be!
