Last weekend was a great early summer weekend of fishing at East Cape, with great temperature of water and everything, but on Sunday a nice strong breeze started from the south, and kept blowing until Wednesday, and it cooled everything again. The water dropped a couple of degrees. The breeze from the South may cool the water down, but it sure kept the ambiance nice and warm.

Fishing distances this week varied by the day, as our fishery changed with the currents. They started all the way down out from Los Frailes, and they moved upwards from there.

Striped marlin were the main species again. There were a lot of striped marlin around East Cape, but not many were hungry. Guests reported seeing double digits every day, but getting them to bite was a whole different thing.

Dorado were around a little bit. As our good friend Nancy Rayner reported they caught over 10 one day, but came back home with none of them, as they were quite small.

Inshore fishing was good early in the week, but the wind disturbed the beach a little. Still, for those looking for that lifetime rooster, this would be a good time to come down. There some sightings of some big roosters around, and we landed one at 70 pounds. It was tail-wrapped and it died, unfortunately.

Bait continues to be very inconsistent. One day we may have a lot, and the next very little. Still since we have ballyhoo for sale, it has been saving the day.
