GOOD OFFSHORE FISHING FOUND BY EAST CAPE BOATS
ABOUT 40 MILES OFF THE BAJA COAST

April 30, 2005, Gary Leeper, at Martin Verdugo's Beach Resort, East Cape fishing, Mexico:

This has generally been a fine week of Baja fishing on the East Cape, with good catches and mostly favorable weather for boaters. All species, including tuna, dorado, marlin, wahoo, sails, and one broadbill swordfish by Mark Rayor came in. There is only one caveat, and that is you had to be in the right spot, and that spot has generally been at least 40 miles off the hook here in Los Barriles.

Hotel cruisers have been very active the last two weeks, and have been traveling the distances to find the warm water that is holding both the bait and the game fish. Generally, the best results have come from straight east to south off Los Frailes. If there has been a disappointment, it is in the relatively short count and size of dorado, but that should improve as we enter May.

Saturday we had stiff winds and the hotel boats did poorly.
