BIG DORADO WINS WESTERN OUTDOOR NEWS
FIESTA DE PESCA FISHING TOURNAMENT

April 20, 2005, Louie Prieto, East Cape, Mexico Western Outdoor News Fiesta de Pesca Fishing Report:

I won the Western Outdoor News (W.O.N.) "Fiesta de Pesca" daily tournament, Monday 4-18. Prizes included custom fishing rod, lure, line, a soft fishing tackle bag and a $250 gift certificate from Penn Reels. I won with a 42.7 pound Dorado. Sailfish and Marlin were not eligible. My wife Kay and I caught our first Marlin and Kay also caught her first Sailfish. We stayed at the Playa Del Sol Hotel in the East Cape.

We were fishing about 40 miles out from Los Barriles in fairly calm seas with little wind. Air temp 80 degrees.

On Day 1 (4/16), we caught 3 Marlin between 120 and 180 pounds. Very strong fish. Had the estimated 180 pound marlin to leader 5 times. All fish were released. We could have stayed in the area and caught more. We were 10-12 miles from La Ribera. Marlin were hooked up and greyhounding everywhere. Kay and I had a double hookup on the jigs before we could even toss a bait out. We trolled the shoreline for roosters and jacks had 1 hit. Football yellowfin were caught by a few boats 30-40 miles out. Marlin is definitely the name of the game.

On Day 2 (4/18), we caught 1 Sailfish, released, on a mackerel and the 1 dorado on a jig. We also lost 1 Marlin. We went looking for the Tuna, but did not find any.
