EAST CAPE ENJOYS MILD JANUARY FISHING WEATHER

Jan. 22, 2005, John Ireland, Rancho Leonero, East Cape, Baja California Sur, Mexico Fishing:

East Cape had mild fishing weather, with cool mornings in the 60s and afternoon highs in the mid-70s, with partly cloudy skies and calm conditions most of the week. East Cape SST sea surface water temperatures were cool at 70-72 degrees. This week's fishing catches included striped marlin, dorado (mahi-mahi), sierra and roosterfish. Striped marlin were caught north off Punta Pescadero, taking mostly live bait. Dorado were schooling off the buoys at Punta Pescadero, taking live bait and hoochies, with a few larger fish to 30 pounds mixed in. Inside fishing at East Cape saw lots of sierra in the mornings off most area beaches, taking chrome and hoochies, with roosterfish biting from Rancho Leonero south to the lighthouse.
