A GOOD MEXICO FISHING TRIP ON THE
EAST CAPE BOAT EL LOCO AT PALMAS DE CORTEZ

Oct. 15, 2004, Andrew Pickerel, East Cape fishing trip, Baja Caiifornia, Mexico:

My friend Yutaka Suganuma and I fished out of Los Barriles this week (10/10) and had decent East Cape fishing with a good variety although the size was on the small side.

A couple of dodos caught off the beach at Cabo Pulmo.

Nice 110lb Striper release.

Nice 35lb Yellowfin caught on a hoochie.

Fished out of Palmas de Cortez on "El Loco", deckie is Alan. Tuna were 40 miles NE on porpoise on schools of Flying Fish which made it tough with our sardinias and cabalitos, so the hoochies in blue/silver were most effective. The marlin was caught on the way back in on a Hi-5 Kona Dodger with caramel/hot squid skirts. Many of the East Cape tuna were 10 lb football size and were released. The dorado were plentiful on that last day and were caught in water as shallow as 20 feet, we even saw a estimated 30lb wahoo in that same water but had zero interest in any bait we threw his way.
