LOTS OF FLAGS FLYING AS EAST CAPE FLEET BOATS
RETURN FROM CABO PULMO FISHING AREA

Oct. 9, 2004, Chuck Meredith, East Cape fishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

The hotel fleet found dorado directly in front of the Pulmo/Las Barracas area in 200 feet of water. Maybe 40 East Cape fishing boats could be counted. Live sardines flylined was the secret.

Maria 2 cruiser caught 15 in quick order, then a sailfish.

On my boat, the "Mr Chuck, I stayed 15 miles off shore and had 5 sails and 3 stripes baited in 4 hours with live mackerel, but none were hungry!! Zero takes. So, I wound up and came back in to the group that was still flylining sardines and got 2 dorado and 1 yellowfin. That was my day's catch.

Many, many East Cape hotel boats return with the flags flying!. Great advertising. But most fishermen on the cruisers still don't get the Mexican fishing license, as is required by law, nor adhere to the catch limits. A pity. This upcoming week, the East Cape hotels have two huge tourneys here with many hundreds of fishermen. Lets hope these groups will respect the fishing laws here.

East Cape water temps started out at 83.5 degrees, and ended up in the afternoon at 86 degrees. Water was nice, no wind, only the cruiser waves to contend with, and there were lots of these. A breeze from the East started at 2 p.m., but died within the hour as we were on plane headed West at 30 m.p.h. Wonderful.
