CABO COW--There weren't a lot of big tuna caught at Cabo San Lucas last week, but these happy anglers scored on a true fattie aboard the Edith III.

CABO SAN LUCAS FISHING PRODUCES A HUGE 360-POUND YELLOWFIN TUNA

Aug. 26, 2005, John L., Cabo San Lucas tuna fishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico Trip Report:

I fished in Cabo San Lucas last week with the Angelina Fleet and got a Black and a Blue Marlin and a bunch of Striped Marlin, all released.

We fished hard and did get skunked a few times searching for blues up by the Gordo and 1150 spot.

This was my first time fishing at Cabo San Lucas where I did NOT catch a dorado whilst trolling for marlin.

I didn't get a dorado for a taco feed. Had to buy a Pargo for a Sunday dinner.

I did catch one 15-pound yellowfin tuna, and had a few wahoo strikes and lost my fave Petrolero to the toothy ones, but came up empty on them.

Speaking of toothy ones, I also got a small Mako on a Braid Maurader. That was a "fun" release.

There were plenty of small flyers and squid around the Jamie banks, lots of Humpback whales. We trolled in lots of porpoise, spinners and common dolphin. Also some really playful bottlenose dolphin put on quite the show along side the boat.

There were lots of seiners on the prowl, and they seem to have the tuna running scared.

Last week, I had just got off the Angelina boat I was fishing on. They are next to Edith fleet. The owner of Edith Fleet Juan Garcia and fleet manager Hector said, "Hey John, we have a boat coming in with a big one. They pulled in to pick up Hector and Juan, and headed off for the scales. The next day they told me it weighed 360 pounds. I had guessed 260 pounds, so I was way off.
