MULTIPLE STRIPED MARLIN RELEASES CONTINUE FOR SOLMAR FLEET

July 14-22, 2005, Benjamin Ortega, Solmar Fleet marlin fishing, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

Another wild week of striped marlin fishing at Cabo San Lucas saw many multiple catches, including one of six striped marlin, four released, by a pair of Thousand Oaks, CA anglers.

Kevin Koski and Doug LaFontaine used a combination of lures and live mackerel to make the season's top billfish catch to date, while fishing from the Cabo San Lucas charter sportfishing boat El Torito at the Jaime Bank. Their comment: "The fishing was excellent and the crew was better."

And then there was a hat trick on striped marlin scored by Bill Van Eenemamm of Houston, TX, a first-timer at marlin fishing. He worked the Pozo de Cota for those three marlin, along with six yellowfin tuna, all on live mackerel fishing aboard the Cabo San Lucas boat Solmar IX.

Another striper triple was recorded by Jose and Shellie Davila of Converse, TX, on green-and-black and yellow-and-orange lures. They fished the Solmar III at the Faro Viejo.

Both Mandie David and Tusty Kiddy of Wilmington, N.C. took striped marlin with a guessed weight of 112 pounds and 175 pounds, since both fish were released. They also added two dorado and four tuna to their one-day tally on the San Lucas VI off Cabo Falso.

Leonar Hector and Herrera Ham of El Centro, CA, split their two-marlin catch, both taken on unidentified lures, off Punta Palmilla aboard the Solmar.

Jonathan Hosek and Elizabeth Laechelin of Poth, TX, shared their time on the chair while subduing their first striped marlin, a 134-pounder, taken on live mackerel on the San Lucas IV off the Gordo Banks. They added a lone dorado, another first, to their day's catch.

For Veronica Lolis, her first time fishing for striped marlin was an event she likely will never forget. She not only landed her first striper, the 170-pound marlin also turned out to be the biggest weighed in at the Cabo San Lucas dock for the day. She made her catch off the Jaime Bank while fishing from the Solmar I.

Top skipper of the week honors went to Adalberto Agundez of the San Lucas VI for guiding his passengers in taking 11 striped marlin, 14 yellowfin tuna, seven dorado and 12 sierra in seven outings.

Total catch for the above period, including releases, was 67 striped marlin, 32 yellowfin tuna, 19 dorado, four roosterfish and 12 sierra.
