SOLMAR SPORTFISHING FLEET RELEASES
49 OF 61 MARLIN LANDED THIS WEEK

May 26-June 1, 2005, Benjamin Ortega, Solmar Fleet, Cabo San Lucas fishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

The marlin bite in the Cabo San Lucas vacation area sportfishing waters this past week resembled more of a feast for the marlin, what with anglers releasing 49 of the 61 stripers they hooked.

In that regard, Huntington Beach, CA angler Don Anderson released all three of the stripers he caught, while fishing from the Cabo San Lucas charter fishing boat Solmar off the Gordo Banks. All of those marlin were taken on a blue-green lure.

Richard Yrigoyew of Corona, CA, trolled a yellow-orange lure behind the Solmar 1, the first one off the Old Lighthouse and the other off Punta Palmilla.

Stephen and Gayle Wood of Portland, Ore., reported having the time of their life in taking 15 yellowfin tuna and a 123-pound striper marlin, all on live mackerel, fishing the Solmar V off the Gordo Banks.

Three Las Vegas anglers, Lee, Nikki and Kodee Browne, hit the jackpot so to speak in catching 12 yellowfin, one dorado and a single striped marlin which they released. They took all their catch while fishing with a green lure worked from the Cabo San Lucas boat San Lucas IV on the Pacific Ocean side of the Cape.

Jon and Alisa Butler of Pearland, TX, praised the crew of the El Torito as "awesome" in helping them land their first marlin, a 162-pounder, plus nine yellowfin tuna on live mackerel off Punta Palmilla. "I can't wait to have it on our wall," enthused Jon Butler over catching that marlin.

Live mackerel and a variety of lures produced 10 yellowfin for Steve Tovah of Huntington Beach, CA, who fished the Solmar III off the Pacific side of the Cape.

Fellow Californian Mark Lurie of San Diego bagged all five of his Cabo San Lucas yellowfin on a rootbeer-colored lure from the San Lucas VI working inside the Gordo Banks.

Captain of the week honors went to Armando Luna of the boat San Lucas IV who in six outings rewarded his anglers with 11 striped marlin, 27 yellowfin tuna, seven dorado and 18 sierra.

Total Cabo San Lucas sportfishing catch by the Solmar Fleet, including releases during the above period, was 61 striped marlin, 52 yellowfin, 32 dorado and 23 sierra.
