BIG SCHOOL OF BONITA FOUND OFF CABO
ABOARD THE CHARTER PANGA CHEERS

April 5, 2005, Charles Whitesell, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur fishing, Mexico:

I fished at Cabo San Lucas on the panga Cheers with captain Ramon last Friday. Cabo San Lucas fishing weather was in the mid 80s all week and low 60s at night. Seas were rough with 4 to 6 foot swells at the beginning at 6:30 a.m. but around 8 a.m. they calmed down.

We fished south of Cabo San Lucas about 8 miles and ran into a very large school of Bonita. Bonita are really fun to catch on light tackle. We released all but one which we saved for bait.

We trolled for an hour or so, and since it was slow, moved closer to the coast and fished along the wave line for Sierra. We were moderately successful, fishing from the Cabo San Lucas lighthouse north along the shore up to about 1 mile north of San Cristobal.

The water temperature was 70 degrees, with a slight breeze. Fishing at Cabo San Lucas was quite slow the entire week. A few Cabo boats got marlin and football-size tuna about 20 miles out from the lighthouse. The town was full of families on spring break. It was necessary to have reservations at the nicer restaurants for dinner.

Capt. Ramon's home number is 011-52-624-143-0274. His brothers, Pedro and Jorge have cabin cruisers for fishing and he can make the arrangements. This is really a good family and they really know their fishing. In the past eight years I have never been disappointed.
