DORADO COUNTS MORE THAN DOUBLE
OVER THE FULL MOON FISHING PERIOD

Feb. 4, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas fishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

Seems like the passing through the full moon slowed the billfish bite at Cabo San Lucas down a little, but the dorado count was up, more than double from the week before.

Overall, the Gaviota Fleet scored about 50 percent of the fishing days on billfish, but had the opportunity to round out the catch with a few dorado. Overall Cabo counts reflected for 43 fishing days provided 19 striped marlin, (18 released) 63 dorado, 7 yellowfin tuna , and 7 skipjack tuna.

The "Fish Cabo" reported for 2 fishing days, releasing 3 striped marlin and catching 10 yellowfin tuna, and the "Juanita VIII" reporting for 4 fishing days released 6 stripers and landed 5 dorado.

Cabo San Lucas Climate: Unusually cool nights and mornings, temperatures ranged from 56 nighttime lows to 78 daytime highs, mostly cloudy.

Sea Conditions: Cabo San Lucas water temperatures had some unusual breaks, 66 degrees outside the Jaime and Golden Gate Banks to 70 on the banks and spread to Cabo Falso. Just south of Cabo Falso & out to the 95 and up to Gordo, 72-73 degrees. North winds were blowing in the Sea of Cortez.

Best Cabo Fishing Area: Fish are scattered. "Juanita VIII" fished at San Cristobal ridge 1 day, 5 miles south of Cabo Falso the next, Palmilla ridge another, and San Jose another, taking fish in all locations.

Best lure/bait: Live bait is a must, mostly mackerel.

Live Bait Supply: Mostly mackerel.
