BIG BULL DORADO DOMINATING THE
FISHING ACTION FOR SOLMAR FLEET CHARTERS

Sept. 23-29, 2004, Benjamin Ortega, Solmar Fleet, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico Fishing:

Cabo San Lucas captain of the week honors went to Armando Luna of the San Lucas IV for rewarding his customers with 17 dorado, three striped marlin, four wahoo and six bonito.

Total catch by the Solmar Cabo San Lucas fishing fleet in 71 outings included 14 striped marlin of which seven were released; 55 dorado, 28 yellowfin tuna, two sailfish one released, and 11 wahoo.

In a week that saw 14 marlin and a pair of sailfish taken, it was big bull dorado that dominated angling activity in Cabo San Lucas area waters.

Jeff Green of Osage Beach, Wash. was the highliner of the week, taking four dorado, one wahoo, six bonito and released a sailfish, while working waters off Punta Colorada from the Cabo San Lucas boat Solmar VII.

A Dallas, Tex. couple, Scott and Elizabeth Woodard, were ecstatic over their catch of four dorado, two weighing 65 and 50 pounds taken aboard the San Lucas V off the Old Lighthouse. "Can't wait 'till we come back," Scott enthused over their catch.

And then there's Corey, Rick, Tim and Steve of Roseburg, Or., who fished the Solmar off Morro Prieto where they caught three dorado, all in the 40-pound class.

Dorado also was targeted by Steve Lowery of Grig Harbor, Wash. He caught four and added a single wahoo and two released bonito fishing off Punta Gorda on the Solmar IV.

Desert Hot Springs, Calif. angler John Sato, fishing from the Solmar VII, bagged one wahoo, three dorado and 10 bonito on a combination of green-and-yellow, black-and-red lures plus live mackerel while fishing off Migrino.

A variety of lures, with green-and-yellow the hot color, produced a single wahoo and dorado to Dick Staphus of Bullhead City, Calif. Reio Grossmann of Spokane, Wash. used the same colored lures, along with live bait, in bagging three dorado.
