FISHING THE BAJA ISLANDS AND PUNTAS WITH CAPT. IGOR GALVAN

July 16, 2005, Jim Howard, Bahia de los Angeles fishing, Baja California, Mexico trip report:

We fished at Bahia de los Angeles (L.A. Bay) on July 8-9-10 with Igor Galvan and it was great.

Bahia de los Angeles fishing weather was good in the low 90s and a slight breeze.

Each day the fishing was different.

The first day we fished both the north and south ends of Isla Smith, and we caught yellowtail in the 10 to 15 lb class and a black seabass estimated at around 100 lb.

The second fishing day, we fished red snapper and grouper up around 25 lbs about 5 miles south of Bahia de los Angeles.

The third day, we fished south at Punta Animas and got into yellows in the 25 lb class, as many as we could handle.

Igor really knows his stuff. We fished live macks on the dropper loop with 60 and 80 test with 12 to 16 ounce weight all 3 days. I fished with Dave Sawsak, Dan Mueller and Jim Davila from Riverside and Garden Grove. We'll be going back next year.

The Baja fishing water at Bahia de los Angeles was flat and clean blue, I don't know what the temperature was, but it was great swimming. We stayed at Guillermo's and the food and hospitality was super. It is so convenient being right at the launch ramp.
