AUGUST FISHING WEATHER IS HOT AND HUMID AT L.A. BAY

Aug. 7, 2004, Abraham Vazquez, Camp Gecko, L.A. Bay, Baja California, Mexico:

Continuing hot weather at L.A. Bay. Most of the last few days in the upper 90's during the day, and a little on the humid side. At night, L.A. Bay cools down to the low 80's. L.A. Bay fishing has continued good for yellowtail, now of good size, 15-25 pounds at pescador reef, and at Guadalupe reef, all on the live or dead bait on the dropper loop at about 200 ft deep. There are still some small yellowtails behind horse head and some at piojo reef. L.A. Bay water temperature was as low as 77 last week but rapidly warming up this week to 80-82 all over.

There are some dorado starting to show up from the north, and we started catching them now at Guadalupe bay. The water there is clear and warm, up to 83 degrees.

There is very little bait in the area now. It is getting hard to make bait. Some days up to 3 hours to make bait, but it is absolutely necessary to have live bait. The dorado do not want lures this year so far. There should be wide open dorado fishing in a couple of days inside the canal de ballenas. There is the local fiestas this weekend here and also the villa vita tournament going on, so the whole place is on party mode for a few days.
