IGOR GALVAN'S PANGA FINDS BIG
DORADO BITE EAST OF ISLA PARTIDA

July 31, 2004, Abraham Vazquez, Camp Gecko, Bahia de los Angeles, Baja California, Mexico Fishing:

A report just in today, dorados piled up in the Isla Partida area and to the east of the island. Today Igor Galvan's group went out there and hooked more than 30 dorado. The ones they kept ranged in size from 12 to 25 pounds. It is still too far for most of the local boats, 32-35 miles, but it is a good sign that they will get here soon.

The boat was fishing in 83-84 degree water, and it was 5 miles east of Isla Partida, a long way but today several boats will go there. I will wait until they get to our front yard.

Inside Bahia de los Angeless, fishing has been slowing down this last week. The yellowtail are still around but have been much smaller this week, on average ( 6-10 lbs) and very few 15#. They are deep at 1 mile south of piojo island, and also northwest and northeast of Smith island.

Most of the action is on live bait but even this has become scarce, so lot of the fisherman have to use iron jigs deep.

There has been some shark caught, lots of bonita, very few skipjack, barracuda are a pest. There are lots of flying fish in the area, no sardines, lots of whales, dolphins, and sea lions. The weather is warm but not bad this week, low 90's in the day and 80 at night with cooling breeze at night. The humidity 70% in the day and 50% at night. The water temperature 81 inside the bay, 78-80 out in the channel. We need that 82-degree water to move up in here for the dorado to get here, so maybe in a few more days.
